6 scary things to do in Iberia this Halloween

Get your scare on this October with these six spooktacular events in Iberia Parish.

1. Happy Ghost Weekend (Oct. 10-11)
No scary costumes are allowed this weekend at the Cajun RVera in New Iberia. There will be a pumpkin patch for kids of all ages to pick their own pumpkins and keep for a cost. Trick or treating will take place on a hayride, bringing the participants to each campsite. There will also be arts and crafts, candy bar bingo, karaoke, a live band and a DJ.

2. Moon Festival at Epiphany Day School (Oct. 23)
The Epiphany Day School is a great event for families with little ghosts. A-Maze-Ing Labyrinth, face painting, carnival games, prizes, Scholastic book fair, spooky stories, photo-op Spot, giant pumpkin raffle and a class pumpkin auction will all occur from 5:30 - 7 p.m. But, please wear family appropriate costumes, no scary masks.

3. Terror on the Teche (Oct. 25)
This Iberia Parish Library Halloween story-telling event will take place at 7 p.m. at Shadows-on-the-Teche in downtown New Iberia. This year's storyteller will be Sherry T. Broussard. This is a family event and children and families are encouraged to dress in costumes for the program. Tickets are $5 and non-refundable. Tickets may be purchased at Iberia Parish Library and the Shadows Visitor Center beginning Oct. 1. In case of rain, the program will be held at Iberia Parish Library on E. Main Street in New Iberia.

4. Witching Weekend (Oct. 24-25)
The Cajun RVera is planning a pumpkin patch for kids to choose a pumpkin for a cost, trick or treating on a hayride, arts and crafts, candy bar bingo, karaoke, a live band and a DJ. There will also be a haunted house on Oct. 25 for the public ($5 admission).

5. Halloween Children's Festival & Costume Contest (Oct. 26)
The celebration starts at noon at the Cyr Gate Community Center in New Iberia City Park with the costume contest at 2 p.m. There will be games, a fun jump, cake walk and concessions.

6. Halloween Weekend (Oct. 31-Nov.1)
Things take a scary turn at Cajun RVera come Halloween weekend with costume contests for all ages, a pumpkin patch, arts and crafts, candy bar bingo, hayride trick or treating, karaoke, football games, a haunted house, a live band and a DJ. Admission for the haunted house will be $5.
